Don't you just love the work of L'Oreal powerhouse Balada Atis? 44 shades, customized foundation for the one and only Lupita N'Yongo, she is in a word--phenomenal--and you've probably never heard of her. I was watching TV when a L'Oreal commercial came on. Now, the nerd girl that loves all things beauty teared her head, as I love critiquing commercials and marketing campaigns. Ever since I was little, I looked at everything through a different filter Noni tells me.
As a Technical writer by trade, and a Lifestyle blogger, consumer marketing is very important to me. I thoroughly enjoy testing and reviewing because I care about the products I use in my home and especially on my body. It matters to me what works and what doesn't. When I purchase a product, I want to know everything about it. As a Technical writer, that's essentially my job. Those manuals or instructions that came with your latest electronic gadget, I just may have written them.
My point is, details matter to me. The how and why are paramount-- so if I see a great commercial, I like to let the brand know it was effective--and while watching this latest commercial by L'Oreal, my mind was blown. It was this True Match collection that made me a loyal and dedicated consumer. I always wondered how after so many years, and so many companies not being able to get it right when it came to foundation for women of color--how on earth did L'Oreal figure this out?
(pic above for illustrative purposes only)
My skin tone is an extremely rich Cafe Au Lait, with deep yellow undertones. A true representation of my multicultural lineage. Nordic, Native American, African and English. Every foundation purchase required me buying more than one shade and having my very own paint party, in an effort to produce a shade that would match my skin--until True Match.
Seeing this TV ad highlighting the behind the scenes artistry of Chemist Balada Atis gave me all kinds of warm fuzzies. I immediately Googled her name and discovered a great article by Alana Martine Kilkeary at www.makeup.com. Learning the science and thought process Balada put into creating this truly life changing product is nothing short of amazing. I don't know if I'm the only one that always wonders whose responsible when a product is spot on, making your daily routine a bit easier, or when something is a complete disaster and I need a refund.
It's informative, educational and inspiring to see more and more women, especially women of color in such roles. Who better to understand the complexities of shade, tone and texture than your largest group of consumers? Should be a no brainer, but that's another post altogether. I encourage you, whether you're part of the Blogging community or not, take a moment to learn about the products and brands you support. Think of how they do or do not work to suit your needs, and most importantly, think of how they( the company) functions as a whole. Companies can't and won't improve the quality of their products if we as consumers don't keep them on their toes. Ms. Balada, you have done and are doing amazing things with L'Oreal and I for one am truly giddy to be a faithful customer. True Match W7 is my beauty BFF (please don't change the formula, ever!!) And L'Oreal HR, if you EVER have a spot for testing, critiquing, writing-- I would be honored to work your team. Til next time--Angel ;0
The nothing like a warm pot or pan of something to welcome you home after a hectic day. Preparing multiple dishes for dinner on the weekend doesn't bother me, but I certainly prefer something quick with minimal effort most weekdays.
A constant on my table is cornbread--something. Casserole, stuffing, bread basket etc., In some form or fashion cornbread is always a welcome guest. Pastas are also a close friend and so very easy to prepare. These dishes are a sampling of some of my favorites as the prep time is quick, under 25 minutes, and many of them can be frozen to simply reheat & serve at a later date. Another way to save even more time in my day. Now these aren't my personal recipes, you'll have to wait on the cookbook for those, but all of these recipes and so many others can be found at www.kraft.com. Bon Appetit :0

My favorite season is in full swing and I 'm so excited I could pop!!Everywhere I look there are gorgeous displays of luxurious coats, wraps, boots, sweaters...all things Fall and they're all absolutely fabulous. I rarely buy anything for myself this time a year because I'm a holiday baby. With my birthday being just one month before Christmas, I get the benefit of birthday and Christmas gifts in one big swoop.
I've seen so many beautiful things I wouldn't mind having, so I'm creating a list-- or two. This one is a list of some luxe items I'm currently swooning over. Friends, family, St. Nick--break out those credit cards. Enjoy ;0
Isn't she lovely? This gorgeous Chevron design in cotton candy pink coat by Ted Baker London is pure decadence. I am in LOVE with the color, silhouette, signature gold tone hardware...and the sweet surprise inside. The lining is a beautiful backdrop of the signature Ted Baker magnolia flower print. This Georgia peach is in love!
Next on the list is of course the most luxurious handbag I've ever seen. Craftsmanship is everything. I saw this work of art somewhere on social media and my mind was blown. There's a special place in my heart for a well constructed, leather handbag& designer Man&Del of Italy (www.manandel.com) has a hold on my heart. This three in one bag (below) , organizer and clutch by Man & Del is a little piece of handbag heaven. If you see a theme, you're right. Pink is my favorite color and this list is coated in blush tones.
Clearly to wear the coat & handbag, I'll need a proper pair of boots. I've wanted a pair of Stuart Weitzman boots for quite some time now,and these beauties should be first in the collection. This style is called the "Charlie" over the knee boot. The heel height is perfect and of course, their pink.
A lady must have lovely luggage for travel, and this classic striped wheelie by none other than Henri Bendel. I was in total shock to hear last week that Henri Bendel will be closing it's doors next year. I cherish the memory of Noni gifting me the Bendel bear and a matching bag. It got lost in one of my many relocation's, but the memory of such never fades. Their are many offerings from Henri Bendel, but I still prefer the classic brown and white stripe. It's an iconic logo, and the epitome of elegance.
Last but not least is a unique piece of home decor from Horchow. I love displaying pictures of family & friends, but I don't love the clutter of so many individual frames. The intricate pattern of squares adds so much interest and would allow each picture to tell i's own story. Horchow is one of my absolute favorite places for unique home decor pieces. www.horchow.com
Your fall fix is just a click away'This weekend marks the "official" beginning of Fall----at least on the calendar. The kiddos are back in school ( Hallelujah!) and the amber hued leaves scattered about the yard announce that Fall 2018. That being said, O'm now just awaiting the weather--a balmy 90 degrees today, to get the message. I LOVE Autumn and everything about it. The smell of smoke from the chimney, the crispness in the air, apple picking--my birthday--just everything. This is my season. Nonetheless it still feels very much like July outside, with no sign of change to come.
While I won't be pulling any sweater dresses just yet, I am invoking those Autumn vibes in every other manner possible, starting with Fall fragrances. There's no easier fix for fall inspiration that aromatic scents of apples, pumpkin and cinnamon from Bath & Body Works. From candles to body creams and Autumn inspired fall decor, your Fall fix is just a click away. Have a look below at some of my personal favorites.
